* **Must** выражает личное убеждение говорящего или строгую необходимость (*I must save energy*).
* **Have to** выражает обязательство, продиктованное внешними правилами или законом (*You have to wear a seat belt*). В вопросах и отрицаниях в настоящем времени используется вспомогательный глагол `do/does` (*Why do you have to...?*, *You don't have to...*).
* **Should / ought to / had better**
(Past Modals — Ex. 5):**
* **Could** передает общую физическую или умственную способность в прошлом (*general ability*), а также используется с глаголами чувств и восприятия (*could see, could hear*).
* **Was / were able to** используется, когда речь идет о преодолении трудностей и успешном выполнении конкретного разового действия в прошлом (*specific ability/achievement*).
* **Had to** — прошедшая форма для глаголов *must* и *have to* (обязанность в прошлом).
(Requests / Asking for permission):**
