Many people from different countries of the world have suffered and even died because of this. Earthquakes nowadays are more dangerous than in the past, as half of the planet's population lives in cities. Serious earthquakes have occurred in Turkey, Greece, and Central America. In 2001, an earthquake completely destroyed the city of El Salvador, which was being rebuilt by the residents at that time after the severe hurricane of 1998. Nature seems to turn on us. We have polluted the air, water and soil, we dump tonnes of waste into the water, and factories emit harmful gases into the atmosphere. The planet is getting warmer. As a result, warmer oceans cause destructive tsunamis, cyclones and hurricanes. The governments of all countries should think about how to protect the planet, clean it of rubbish, and create a favorable habitat for people and animals. **2.** Our activities often depend on the weather. Weather is, so to speak, the "mood" of the atmosphere. Meteorologists use modern technology to make a weather forecast. But nature itself is an instrument for predicting weather changes. We should observe the clouds, the behaviour of animals and plants. Thus, if the sunset is red, it will be windy. In winter, a blue sky means warm weather, a light sky means frost, and a dark sky means a snowstorm (blizzard). --- ### Пояснения и правила #### К упражнению 5 * **1.** После выражения *don’t mind* используется глагол с окончанием **-ing** (*working late*). * **2.** Глагол *make* в значении «заставлять» требует после себя инфинитив **без частицы to** (*made her stay in*). * **3.** После порядковых числительных (*the first, the second...*) используется инфинитив с частицей **to** (*the first to arrive*). * **4.** Устойчивое выражение: *look forward to + V-ing* (ждать с нетерпением). * **5.** Вежливая просьба: *Would you mind + V-ing...?* * **6.** Конструкция: *It was difficult (for smb) + to-infinitive* (*to find*). #### К упражнению 6 * **used to + инфинитив** — действие или состояние регулярно происходило в прошлом, но больше не имеет места (*used to be, used to travel, used to buy, used to attract*). * **be used to + V-ing** / **get used to + V-ing** — иметь привычку / привыкать к чему-то (*wasn't used to using, getting used to living, get used to working, isn't used to staying, get used to driving*). Обратите внимание: предлог *to* здесь требует после себя форму герундия (глагол с *-ing*).
