Valenki * **When it appeared / became popular:** Modern look appeared in the 18th century (Nizhny Novgorod Region); mass production began in the 19th century. * **Why it became popular:** Very warm, comfortable for harsh winters, and effectively relieve pain. * **The product today:** Worn in both villages and cities; modern designers create colourful models with decorations. #### 3. Holodets * **When it appeared / became popular:** First appeared in the 16th century. * **Why it became popular:** Made from rich meat broth without artificial gelatin; traditionally served for winter festive refreshments. * **The product today:** People can cook and enjoy it anytime, usually served cold with horseradish or mustard. --- ### Exercise 5 (ICT) **Example of a short presentation about Tula Gingerbread (Тульский пряник):** * **Product:** Tula Gingerbread (*Tulsky Pryanik*) * **When it appeared / became popular:** The first written mention of Tula gingerbread dates back to 1685. It became widely famous across Russia in the 18th and 19th centuries. * **Why it became popular:** It has a unique sweet taste with honey, spices, and fruit or condensed milk filling. Each gingerbread had beautiful stamped designs and was considered a great gift or souvenir. * **The product today:** It remains one of the most famous Russian traditional souvenirs.
