Вот краткий пересказ текста на английском языке:

The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy with a king or queen as head of state, but with no real power. The monarch must have the support of Parliament and signs all laws, but in practice never refuses to sign them. The monarch rarely meets with Parliament except for formal events.

The UK Parliament consists of two chambers: the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The House of Commons has 650 directly elected members. The House of Lords has over 1000 members, but only about 250 are active. Members of the House of Lords are not elected; some are hereditary peers, others are life peers appointed by the monarch on the advice of the Prime Minister.

New laws are introduced in either the House of Commons or the House of Lords. Once both houses agree on the bill, it goes to the monarch for approval (known as "Royal Sanction"). After Royal Sanction, the bill becomes an act of Parliament and law.

To vote in the UK, you must be 18 years old. Local elections take place every four years to decide which political party will administer local self-government.
