Higher Education in Russia In Russia, after finishing school at the age of seventeen or eighteen, many students choose to go to a university or an institute. The main admission requirement for a university is passing the Unified State Exam (EGE) in several subjects. The scores received on these exams determine whether a student can enroll in a state-funded place or has to pay for their education. Most university programs for a bachelor's degree last for four years. After that, students can continue their studies for two more years to earn a master's degree. Some universities also offer a specialist degree, which usually takes five or five and a half years to complete. Students attend lectures, seminars, and laboratory classes. At the end of each term, they take exams and receive credits. Education in Russia is focused on providing students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for their future careers.
